Newcastle Eagles’ Arena

On Christmas Eve the Eagles BBL team made themselves at home with a first tour and training session at the new Eagles Community Arena.

With the holiday period now over, the new multi-million pound arena will open with BBL game date set for Friday 11th January 2019.

The two-storey venue will provide a permanent home for the Eagles Basketball Team as well as a corporate entertainments area. The venue will comprise of three basketball courts, with markings for netball and badminton use, a gym, six changing rooms, a function suite and office space for the Newcastle Eagles and the Eagles Community Foundation.

It is anticipated that more than 11,000 people will be engaged in sport during the facility’s first year. The venue will be open from 8am-11pm daily and embrace a wide range of sports clubs, organisations, age groups and abilities – becoming a focal point for leisure and recreation – based at Riverside Dene in Elswick.

The project received a £1.1m grant from the Local Growth Deal through the North East Local Enterprise Partnership.

"At this stage it's really exciting - every day you go in and something else has happened. I'm really happy with the design and the quality of the build - I think it's going to look absolutely amazing."

We’re very much looking forward to seeing the project develop over the coming years.
